Of moving and such.....

God, I haven't posted a blog in forever! So, just in case my beloved reader needs an update......

I just got a promotion with Bank of America.  It's a position I've been trying to get for at least a year - I kept getting passed up because I don't have a degree.  (That's an entirely different soapbox I'll get to some other day!)  So, I finally get this job, but it's out in Lawrence.  So, now I guess I'm moving to Lawrence.  I just feel like maybe all of this is happening too fast.  Like I'm caught up in some giant storm that's going to suddenly leave me behind somewhere I don't want to be.  This is exactly how I ended up in Kansas City though, so I'm taking it as a good sign.  I remember coming back to jomo after I had gotten the job in kc and having two weeks to move.  How crazy life can be?  Anyway, I've been commuting for the past few weeks, and I really enjoy Lawrence.  Someone told me once that Lawrence was like 25 square miles of heaven surrounded by Kansas.....  Lol! I definitely would agree; it's all together entirely too East Coast for this area.  Last night a few of the people I work with took me for an evening out on the town.  It was really fun!  We went to freestate brewery and some tiny coffee shop just off mass street.  I think I will really enjoy living there!

I'm moving December 22nd into a really boring, normal apartment. Not like my loft downtown, but it's gigantic and it has a washer/dryer in the unit!!! No more stolen laundry - woohoo!  I think Clark will enjoy the temporary return to the suburbs - he's not a "city" kind of guy.  As apprehensive as I am about moving (yet again) to a place where I will have no friends and no family, I'm really excited about the friends I will make.  I think about my move to kc and all the wonderful people that I would have never had the opportunity to get to know if I had never taken the leap.  I'm going to miss a few people desperately, but we will stay in touch - kansas city is only 45 minutes away!

Anyway, I really feel like the type of person who just isn't ready to settle down and spread out roots.  I want to move around the world when I finish my degree.  I would love to live in a foreign country for a year or two - maybe Spain!!! That would be fun!   I just feel like there is so much more out there than just Kansas City.  There are so many wonderful people like Becky, and Mia, and Anndrea, and Lauren - people I will never know if I don't trust in myself enough to leave.

Okay, so just something I've been thinking about for a while......

When I lived in jomo I wasn't really exposed to veganism.  Except to think that they were all tree-hugging hippies.  A few of my friends up here are vegetarians or vegans and my opinions have changed completely.  I really don't eat alot of meat when I'm at home anyway because I'm cheap and meat is pretty expensive....but I do eat chicken and fish when I go out or go to my parent's.  However, in my endless pursuit to lose weight, I'm seriously considering becoming a vegetarian.  (Not all the way, I think I would have a hard time giving up butter, eggs and cheese - but definitely giving up meat would be an option)  I've been researching it quite a bit trying to decide if I could actually pull it off.  Below is a link to a video that really helped me make up my mind.  If you want to give input feel free, but please remember that this is a personal decision everyone makes every meal we sit down to.  Just a word of warning, I am an animal lover and the following video is graphic enough that it definitely made me cry.

Rolla

Anyone want to go to Rolla for a huge party this weekend???? As predicted, Gary bailed on me at the last second.  I'm going to see Liz graduate....really, really, really do not want to go, but I have to.  She is moving to Louisiana after this and who knows when the next time I will see her will be.   Anywhoo, I plan on leaving Saturday morning and coming home Sunday morning.

Also, I'm getting rid of the puppy.  There are certain habits I can put up with for only so long.  If anyone wants a puppy and has more time to train her than I do, she is free and I have all the accessories to come with her (crate, super cute collar, lead & harness, start of puppy food, toys, etc.)

short legs - will travel

So, new bit of randomness.....I was walking the dogs after class tonight up at the post office and some homeless man starting talking to me and wanted to know all about Clark.  Not really out of the ordinary, you don't see many dogs with such a fantabulous haircut very often.

So I'm standing there trying to figure out a way to get out of talking to this guy who I don't think has bathed since the Clinton administration, when Keiko saves the day.  She was pulling on me with all her might and I lost track of her leash.  Poor homeless man, I took off running in my stilettos  with Clark reluctantly in tow.  Needless to say, Keiko can run really, really fast despite her  tiny legs!  I was a little scared, but she ran right up to the building door and waited patiently for Clark and I to trek down the hill.  When we got inside I could almost hear her say, "Dammit, bitch, where's my treat!?!?!?!?"

It's funny because all my dogs are this way....they get an opportunity to run away and they run straight home! I can remember one time Rudy ran away and he ran from our back door around to our front door.  By the time we missed him, he was waiting for someone to come open the door for him.  I guess the Great Outdoors are not as appealing once you are out in them.

birthday update

Gary and I are going to Liz's graduation in Rolla on the 12th, so we have decided to move my birthday up to next weekend.  Same plan.....Nick and Morgan's apartment.... and lots and lots of alcohol.... and maybe a good movie or some good music in the background.  Everyone's still invited, and there will be some people coming up from jomo if anyone would like a ride!
